A Winner

Well I am back, a little later than expected but back anyway.  Sorry for the delay, I hurt my back yesterday and my only thought was pain management.

Now we only had 2 commenters on the Traveling Treasures Giveaway

This is what they were playing for

So I have to draw a winner. There wasn't much of an ask for Mr Random Number Generator so I tossed a coin.

Heads = Creative .1
Tails = Cheryll

That is Tails.  So  CONGRATULATIONS CHERYLL.  I will email you for your snail mail address.

Thank you both Cheryll and Creations.1, I appreciate your entries.  For anyone else who is interested in Travelling Treasurers, watch Cheryll's blog for information on when she will pass it on.

A travelling Giveaway

Earlier this month I was the lucky winner of the Travelling Treasurers Giveaway by Jenny of Elefantz posted about here.

This parcel was started by Debbie from Sweet Little Cottage and I was the 4th person to have the 'Treasure' visit them.

When the parcel arrived at my place from Jenny of Elefantz, it contained these treasures
A piece of handkerchief linen, 2 lovely patterns, a set of 3 flower buttons, a gumboots fat quarter, a Christmas panel and some cute Christmas trim
I decided to keep the Handkerchief Linen, Christmas trim a sewing pocket pattern and the cute gumboot fabric.
I have replaced this with a
"Kit in a Card" Treadle sewing machine stitchery kit;
2m of cotton lace
a fat quarter of French General fabric.

so when you pop it with what I left in the parcel
A Christmas panel, a Jenny of Elefantz pattern and a set of 3 flower buttons

You get this yummy looking stash.
This photo below is what the next person will receive as their Travelling Treasure.
 NOW FOR THE INSTRUCTIONS

Would you like to be the next participant in Travelling Treasures??
You MUST have a blog.
You MUST take what you want from the parcel.
You MUST replace it ensuring there are at least two patterns and one fat quarter in the parcel.
You MUST run the giveaway/handover on your blog.
You MUST have it posted on your blog at the beginning of August.
(This is meant to run month by month.)
If you can do all of that, leave me a comment on this blog post and I'll draw a winner next Monday 8th July 2013. Then I can post the parcel to you in time for the next monthly travel.
I am excited to see where this parcel will travel.  Unfortunately this parcel is going to remain in Australia, so Australian entries only please.
Good Luck and share the love with your friends.

My head is in a whirl and I am missing sewing

Well I mentioned I am in a whirl.
We are buying OUR FIRST HOME
and it is finally unconditional, so as of 12 July this lovely house will be ours

So I have not managed much sewing.

I did finish a few fiddly tasks though.

This ugly chair belongs to the Special Education Unit at our school
It needed some washable covers, so after sitting on my sewing table waiting for  a strap, here they are.
Flowers on the snow
 and frogs on the pond
they are a happy and practical solution.

Next a fun "lets just see' project to do on Tuesday nights at craft.

Square in a square

Stitched into a flimsy on display at my market stall

This photo is just to make you smile.
Check out all the quilts on board HMAS Toowoomba - Aussie Hero quilts. How cool
and another Tshirt transformation for my T.
Pop back in the next 24 hours.  I am hosting a Travelling Treasures giveaway and I will tell you how to enter.

I'm still here

I'm still here.

It has been a full on month that culminated in signing a contract for our FIRST HOME on the 31/5/13.

I am a little on a high and a little overwhelmed with what I have to do.

I promise I will be back soon (well in the next few months - at least)

O-me has been busy

Last week I posted about sending a quilt off to an Aussie Soldier in Afghanistan.  At the end of that post I mentioned making another soldier quilt out of Australian fabrics in a strip design as posted about here.

That stripy quilt was mounted onto O-me on the weekend.

And finished for sending off to another soldier.  I just need to make a laundry bag to head off with it.
While O-me was in the mood, I popped "Ripple Effect" onto him too.
Once it was quilted I found a bright binding to finish it off.
"Ripple Effect"  has been added to the Roma Patchwork Care Quilt collection to pass onto a local in need.
And here it is with it's lovely binding.
I will be back soon with a few more finishes and some entries for the show.

A quilt for a soldier

ANZAC Day saw me finishing another Aussie Hero Quilt.
 This is it on O-me.
 and finished.

This is heading of to a RAAF member in Afghanistan.

This laundry bag is going with it.

I was on such 'a roll' after quilting the airplane quilt I decided to piece together another row quilt.
These are the feature Aussie fabrics in the quilt.
I hope to get this one on O-me too soon to send off to a soldier somewhere.

Recycling & Repurposing

Last week I had the desire to just make something.

I dug around and found this dress that is lovely but 'not me'
and a pair of old jeans with a great pin tucked detail down the front.
 After a bit of 'playing'
 I have a reversible apron

(Thanks for modelling Gayle)

ANZAC Day 2013

Another ANZAC Day is upon us.
Our family attended the town march and service.
It never ceases to amaze me how great an understanding and appreciation of our servicemen and women my boys have.
I am sure the future generation will keep our traditions alive.
Thank you to all serving Australians both past & present.

I will be spending my afternoon working on my Aussie Hero Quilt to let another soldier know he is thought of by people here at home.

Whoo has been sewing??

Whoo??

Why me of course.

These little fellows have been hanging out in my house since last year (or maybe even the year before that).

They were appliqued on but not sewn.

Well not any more.  Last night these 2 were sewn into pot holders

and now they can watch the goings on in the kitchen
and let me know if something is burning.
and these 3 were finished off this morning.

That big orange one looks like an 'angry bird' rather than an owl.

So that is 5 more finishes for April and 5 bits of 'stuff' out of the mess.  I think the orange ones will be going into my stall stock and I will decide about the red ones after the local show.

An Alien, A UFO and a finish??

This is one of those finishes that you just want to slap your forehead and say Durrh - why did you wait to do that??
Back in October we visited "The Dish" in Parkes NSW as part of our school holiday excursion.
While we were there we found these adorable shirts with aliens on them and both boys wanted one.
Unfortunately for T, he does not fit 'kid' clothes anymore, so I promised him I would cut up his alien shirt and stitch it onto a shirt that did fit properly.

So after 5 months of sitting on the table I cut, I sewed, I finished.
(And it took only 5 MINUTES, only 5 minutes, arrrgh)

I have one EXCITED boy with a unique shirt.
Durrh - why did I wait so long to do finish this??
