March Finishes

Yes, I realise today is the 1st of June and I am posting March finishes, but I wanted to get these posted before I shared April &  May.

I had previously posted about my Fallen Warrior Quilt and poppies, so I just needed to share T-shirt remodel for son #2.

My in-laws had been on holidays to New Zealand and purchased shirts for hubby & boys, unfortunately when they purchased the shirts they could only find adult sizes, that meant that my size 10 son looked like he was wearing a dress.  it was just too big, so he wouldn't wear it.

My unwilling model and his shirt that fits.  Thanks to friendly overlocker it is now a regularly worn piece of clothing.  It is a win - win.  He will wear his shirt & Nanna knows her gift is appreciated.

Anzac Day

Well a couple of months have passed since I last blogged.

My last post was about poppies for our town's 5000 poppies exhibit.

The poppies were hung in time for Anzac Day.  They were mounted to a camouflage  net.

 I love the variety of poppies.

They looked lovely and I was proud to have been able to participate in this exhibit.

March saw more poppies

I made another dozen poppies for the Roma Anzac display

 And worked on an exceptionally special Aussie Hero Quilt.

 This quilt was made from poppies donated by sewers from across Australia.  Each poppy unique and special.  Each poppy full of love.

 This quilt was made to be a fallen warrior quilt.  On Anzac day it was to be presented to the family of a fallen soldier.  I do not know the family or the soldier's name.  I just answered a request to sew a poppy quilt.

 It was probably the hardest quilt I have ever had to sew.  Not technically hard, not design hard, but emotionally.  It is had to think that the soldier will never see it.  His family did not know it was coming and that could be a shock.  I do not know if the soldier was killed recently or if he was killed  years ago.  It is not my place to know.

I do know that I hope we will not have the need for many more fallen warrior quilts.  I pray our service personnel are able to do their jobs without loss of life.

 Lest we forget.

Poppies

As you are probably aware this year is the 100 year commemoration of the "Legend of ANZAC".

My town, Roma, is making a 5000 poppies exhibit like many other towns in Australia.  The original story behind 5000 poppies can be found here.  Now I am not exactly certain what the plan is for our town, but I did manage to get a  9 poppies made at craft on Tuesday night. (I think I spent a lot of time chatting and helping others.)

Well that is another OPAM (or 9) for Feb.  I hope I can start March on a good creative note.

More Aussie Hero Quilts

Well another week has passed and another quilt or two has been completed.

This quirky quilt is being sent to a man named Nicholas.

 

The pinwheel blocks were made by sewers from all over Australia and sent in as a 'block of the month'.  They have some crazy fabrics in them..

 

The bunting has some wonderful cartoon Aussie Animals and flowers.

 

 Great Aussie cars on maps.

 Aussie Flags and kangaroos.

 Quirky Christmas Emus. (Who wouldn't want emus on their quilt and Christmas does come around every year)

 This second quilt is for a man named Nathan.  It is also quirky and different.

 Cricket (as it is the summer sport season )

These quilts were posted today and will hopefully be at their new owners in about a month.
